The Biotechnology Industry Organization(BIO) event dates back to 1987, when the Association of Biotechnology Companies hosted an international conference in Washington, D.C. that exceeded expectations by attracting 155 attendees - the goal had been 100. Since then, growth has been steady - attendance hit 14,000 in 2001 and 15,000 in 2002 and over 20,000 from 2003-2005 with representatives from 44 nations. Press coverage has exploded as well, to a record 631 media registrations. More than 20,000 attendees are expected at the 2006 show. Over 85% of Bio attendees are the key decision maker in their organization. If you are interested in attracting companies in the human, plant or animal sciences, including agricultural ventures, this is the show to attend. Missouri will have an eight booth Pavilion in the front of the Expo hall as part of the host region area and be co-host of the opening reception.
